Targeting young, busy professionals in Jakarta who juggle gym routines, freelance gigs, and financial goals, KOINS injects fun into personal finance. It stands out in Indonesia's vibrant fintech ecosystem by transforming the chore of saving money into an engaging, dopamine-driven experience that ties digital milestones to real-world Rupiah rewards.
David
FounderThe original KOINS prototype was feature-heavy but visually bland, suffering from severe user drop-off immediately after onboarding. The app failed to evoke excitement or compete with established giants like Jenius and SeaMoney due to: • A confusing and unrewarding points system. • Static, uninspiring progress tracking. • A lack of engaging visuals to retain the Gen Z and Millennial demographic.

Creative challenges
This shaped wireframes in Figma, progressing to prototypes with smooth animations (Lottie for confetti on milestones) and a playful yet trustworthy design system: tropical Indonesian-inspired gradients (batik motifs in teal/orange #00A676/#FF6B35), neuromorphic cards for balance overviews, and micro-interactions like shaking coins for "harvest" savings.

Development approach
Accessibility was key: Voice-over support in Bahasa Indonesia/English and dark mode for late-night scrolls. Two rounds of usability testing refined friction points, like simplifying the deposit flow from 7 to 3 taps, yielding a 45% retention uplift and Net Promoter Score jumping from 4.2 to 8.7. Handoff included Zeplin assets, a 60-page style guide with 100+ components, and dev notes for Flutter integration. Results: 55% increase in monthly active users post-launch, 3x deposit frequency, and features highlighted in Tech in Asia for innovative gamification proving fun design drives financial discipline.
